What visitors say
Lovely place to visit. It is set in the Shropshire countryside, so it was peaceful and quiet with a nice old church and graveyard next to it. There was a couple of sheets with tasks on for my 7 year old daughter to do where she had to find different things around the castle and grounds, so she was happy and enjoyed herself. There is also a nice tearoom by the carpark with cakes, sandwiches and soup. My tuna mayo baguette was huge and very nice. I would recommend a visit.

Stokesay Castle is, without question, one of the very best places in England to understand medieval life and the history of the local countryside. Exceptionally well preserved, it offers a rare opportunity to explore a fortified manor house that has survived for more than 700 years with much of its original character intact. The castle itself is beautifully maintained, with impressive timber-framed buildings, peaceful gardens, and a remarkable gatehouse that transports you back to another era. Be sure to visit the neighbouring parish church and historic churchyard as well—they add another layer to the story of the community that grew around the estate over the centuries. One of the highlights is the surrounding moat, which helps bring the medieval setting vividly to life and makes Stokesay one of the finest surviving examples of its kind. Every corner of the site encourages you to pause, imagine, and appreciate how people once lived, worked, and defended their homes. Whether you’re interested in English history, architecture, or simply looking for a fascinating day out, Stokesay Castle is an outstanding destination and one I would highly recommend.

Just wow!! I loved this place. I came to Shropshire for the first time on vacation (I’m from the North East). We decided to try a local castle and we ended up here! Such an amazing place! From the views to the castle itself, it’s absolutely breathtaking! We also had cream tea in the nearby café! The staff were just soooo friendly too! I had such a good time here. Really recommend this place to anyone. (Oh and love the little swallows nesting)

Loved the ambience. From the church you could walk into before the castle, to standing up in the turret, overlooking the land, was an amazing experience. The audio guides were very informative. Well worth the visit.
