About The Bull

The Bull is a traditional village pub with rooms on the High Street in Ditchling, a picture-postcard South Downs village around six miles west of Lewes and part of the Young's pub group. The building has the low ceilings, open fires and flagstone floors expected of a historic Sussex inn, with a small number of individually furnished bedrooms above the bar.

Ditchling itself is one of the prettiest villages on this stretch of the Downs, with its own small museum of art and craft and direct access to Ditchling Beacon, one of the highest points on the South Downs Way, making the pub a popular base for walkers as much as for visitors to Lewes.

Guests use it as a quieter, more rural alternative to staying in Lewes itself, with the town, Brighton and the coast all within easy reach by car or on the regular bus service that runs through the village.

Had a good roast dinner here. I went for the beef, others in the party had pork, which was tasty. Not the best roast ever - the roasties weren't crispy - but nice Yorkshire pudding and gravy.

Delightful pub in a picturesque village. Very pleasant warm atmosphere with friendly staff. Excellent wines and delicious food however we went for Sunday roast and the beef was pretty tough and not great flavour. There were two of us but it looked like a good place for larger groups.

A very solid visit. It's a lovely setting, clean pub and restaurant, well maintained. Nice friendly staff and atmosphere, the only thing I would say if the fish was a little over cooked for a fish and chips, still though, just preference if anything. Other meals were the bull burger and chips. Bacon and liver + we had the bread and olives for nibbles to start with. Came here to a birthday lunch on a Monday and was lovely a chilled too. Will be back! A**** LDT x

Gorgeous place, immaculate vibes, plenty of parking, nice and warm. I’d say, as a vegetarian, there were only a couple of “main” options, one being a burger and one being a pithivier. Both sound nice however I’d suggest to have maybe another option? The sides are lovely and the drink menu is great I’ve already booked another table for next week! Beautiful place
