The Macs Farm

Absolutely gorgeous farm and everyone so welcoming. Yummy local ice-cream and super friendly chickens thank you. Check the bar opening before you go as it's open more than Google says, but not every day. Very helpful If you telephone. If visiting farm take campers turn off not egg shack! Walk from car park is a 10-15 beautiful walk to egg nest box, through unshaded meadowland , shaded woodland, and alongside the working farm hen shed. Everything is well signposted.

7th year and its always good. Thanks team. Genuinely love going and the kids do too. Its clear you all love the place and the improvements have reflected this. Including kids there are around 20 of us who come - we feel safe, entertained and welcome there. Staff have always been fantastic, open, engaging and patient. You set a high benchmark and I'm not sure there is anywhere that could match it. See you next year!

The macs farm is a wonderful place for families and especially children. There is so much to do. Play in the woods, run around the various trails and spacious camping areas. The showers and toilets are modern and clean and meticulously maintained. The bar, food area and entertainment stage have been consistently upgraded over the years and this year sees the biggest yet. The burgers from the house chef are really really good and the chips are to die for. The visiting food vans are carefully chosen and invariably good. The high spot for me this visit was the Yorkshire pudding wraps with either shredded beef, pork, chicken and a vegetarian option were so good. Like having a roast dinner all in one wrap. Susie and Danny and the family were as attentive and approachable as ever and the whole setup is testimony to their love of what they do. The beer Olympics was a revelation and very little was drunk. Although alcohol is available the atmosphere seems to remain very friendly and I've not seen any drunkenness. The egg shack is a huge service for the local community and much of the farms egg production gets to local customers. Ice cream remains locally produced and the local beers and wine are very very good. The farm is still very much in evidence and the ability of the visitors to feed the hens and visit the relatively new pigs introduces the idea that food isn't just something you get from the supermarket. Since my last visit they have planted literally thousands of trees and I can't wait to see how things develop in the years to come. The wheelbarrows remain in evidence and lots of people use and misuse them. I think this camping facility has a real niche and a very loyal following. I spoke to 6 people and all of them were first timers and all had been recommended by friends.

Mac’s farm has lost its way. We stayed last weekend - tents are now crammed in and it’s more geared towards loud groups drinking late into the night than the family atmosphere it was known for. Rules about music and noise after 10 are not enforced. The showers are scalding hot. Problems are dismissed once you’re pitched. It used to be a beautiful site aimed at families wanting a proper camping experience but that has all been lost. Perhaps being more like a music festival makes more money and it does feel a lot more commercial now. A real shame, it used to be fantastic.
