About Penhill Park
Well, this is quite some setting. Penhill Park occupies a neatly mown field with superb views over the hills and vales of Wensleydale, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Set on the edge of a 100-acre working farm at the foot of Penhill itself, the site offers easy access to the peak's hiking trails and sits adjacent to Middleham Moor, where racehorses from local yards exercise on the gallops each morning. Two pubs lie about 20 minutes' walk away, while Wensley Waterfall makes a rewarding three-mile trek.
The site operates a 'leave nothing behind but footprints' policy, so all waste must go home with you. Facilities include eco-toilets, a shower shack, washing-up area and recycling amenities. Firepits are generally allowed depending on weather conditions, though disposable barbecues and ground campfires are prohibited. Dogs are welcome throughout the year but must stay on leads as livestock graze the surrounding fields. The market town of Leyburn, with its shops and restaurants, is an easy 10-minute drive.

Penhill was my late father's favourite spot, and it's easy to see why. The views are amazing, whatever the weather. The walk up can be fun, but worth it! The stone cairn gets rebuilt from time to time. Last time we were here it was just a pile of rocks, now built into a circular shelter. Must not leave it so long before we come back...

Great views, the walk is not really for inexperienced walkers, as very uneven and steep.
