Abbey Farm Holiday Park

Dark Ln, Ormskirk L40 5TX, UK

Nearest full-facility touring park to Liverpool, 13 miles north east at Ormskirk

About Abbey Farm Holiday Park

Liverpool itself has no campsite, so the closest proper touring park with full facilities is Abbey Farm, on Dark Lane just outside Ormskirk in west Lancashire, around thirteen miles north east of the city centre. The site sits beside the ruins of Burscough Priory in flat farmland, and it's a ten-minute walk into Ormskirk, a working market town with a twice-weekly market and a Merseyrail station. Trains from Ormskirk reach Liverpool Central in roughly forty minutes, which makes this a workable base for anyone who wants to see the city without driving into it.

The park is laid out in small paddocks rather than one open field, which keeps it feeling settled: one paddock for seasonal units, one for tents and one for touring caravans and motorhomes. There are around sixty touring pitches, all on hardstanding with 16-amp electric hook-up, and a dozen of those add water and waste connections. Shrubs and flower borders divide the bays, so pitches are more private than the numbers suggest. Tents are taken on grass, with fire pits available.

Facilities run well beyond the basics. Showers are free and hot, with individual shower rooms and a fully accessible bathroom, and there's a covered washing-up and food preparation area alongside a laundry with commercial machines and an iron. On site you'll also find a fishing pond, a children's play area, a games field, a games room and a library, plus a large dog-exercising area. Ormskirk supplies the pubs, supermarkets and restaurants, and Southport's beach is twenty minutes up the road in the other direction.

We stayed in the farm house, there were 6 of us staying for a small relaxing hen weekend. The place was lovely, clean, and spacious. The main room was very big with lots of wardrobes and a gorgeous ensuite, we gave this room to the bride to be and she felt extra special. The kitchen was very well equipped for us to cook at the house, hot tub was ok, however there is no shelter other than the pergola, trees drape over so we often got the leaves dropping which can also become slippery. I would say the only let down was there is no covered area outside to enjoy the gardens and no fire pit/outdoor heaters which would help irrespective of weather. Advice to take a pop up gazebo if you want to enjoy the garden in the rain. Overall though stay was excellent 👍

I have been a resident at abbey farm caravan site now for the past two years, it's amazing, beautiful grounds very well kept, dogs have a huge field of their own, children have a wonderful new park to play in mine are always there, and if you like fishing then that's taken care of too, with your own lake and if the kids want more there is a great playroom encouraging the making of new friends. The shop has everything you cud ask for and is run by the owners who are lovely people. John and Roy are always available and nothing it too much trouble this is backed up by their wives Ann and Donna. would highly recommend this site.

Great site, very friendly helpful staff, clean toilets, nice clean showers with loads of nice hot water. Grounds are well kept. It was a bit soft underfoot but it was February! Pitches are gravel and drain well. Seems to be visited by nice families too. Everyone we met was polite and friendly.

We have just returned from a short stay at Abbey farm holiday park. Tbe camp is definitely one of the nicest I've stayed on the owners are very friendly and go above and beyond to help. We was very impressed with the cleanliness if the camp and the toilets and showers was spotless. We will definitely be visiting this camp again. Joanne and Ian
