A beautiful old building in a tranquil setting, the hotel is clean and the staff are welcoming. I stopped here for one night on a work trip and enjoyed the terrace, sitting with a drink and watching the squirrels in the trees. Room was basic but had everything I needed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice. The price I paid was very reasonable for what was a relaxing evening and a good night's sleep

Emergency Booking from Hell Due to a family member having a heart attack, I urgently needed somewhere close to Whiston Hospital. I came across this hotel advertising a “luxury room with Jacuzzi bath” — and initially, the entrance and surroundings looked absolutely stunning. Perfect for weddings or events. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. I stayed in Room 18, and it was unacceptable. The bed was filthy — with vile stains all over the mattress protector. The chairs were heavily stained, the towels were dirty, and overall cleanliness was extremely poor. I raised this immediately and was told an external cleaning company prepares the rooms. I was offered another room, however none of the Jacuzzi baths were working — which was the main reason I booked — so I declined. Instead, I asked for clean bedding and made the bed myself. The manager did come to assist and was apologetic, offering a free drink, which I declined as it didn’t reflect the seriousness of the issue. Breakfast was included, which initially seemed like a bonus. The continental selection was very limited, with stale, hard bread and dirty glasses. However, the cooked breakfast was hot, freshly prepared, and enjoyable. I do want to acknowledge the staff member on breakfast — she was extremely pleasant, attentive, and clearly doing her best while working alone. I’m not seeking a refund. I genuinely hope the money is invested back into the hotel — because Room 18 should not be let in its current condition. The bed needs replacing, and the furniture is tired and heavily worn. For a “luxury” room, this is far below standard — it makes you question what the basic rooms are like. The décor choices (particularly the hospital-style green tones) don’t help either — it feels dated and poorly maintained. Given the circumstances of my stay, this was incredibly disappointing. I should have read the reviews beforehand. I would not recommend staying here.

I have just returned from a 2 night stay and everything was super positive about my stay. For the price, I was blown away at the rooms, service, cleanliness, grounds and the staff team. I honestly didn't expect it to be amazing based on how reasonable it was cost-wise but I was proved wrong. A special thanks to Liv on reception who was just so lovely, helpful and kind.

I recently celebrated my birthday last Sunday, and I absolutely loved the place. It was very comfortable, and the service was excellent. The staff on the day were incredibly kind and attentive. I will certainly return and use the hotel again.
