The Imperial Hotel

Treated my elderly mother to a birthday stay. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly in particular a porter who we met on our first day. I felt that he went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The room had a lovely view of the sea and was spacious. We enjoyed the facilities. Unfortunately, what let the room down was the cleanliness of the double bed. It didn't smell fresh and clean.

I cannot find fault with any element of this hotel. It's classified as a Four star but it matches or even surpasses many of the Five star hotels in which I have stayed. Our rooms were spacious, well presented and spotlessly clean. The buffet breakfast choice was extensive, the food fresh and well cooked and the buffet area was constantly being monitored to ensure nothing ran out. The food at the in-house restaurant is to die for - cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and delicious. We also had an Afternoon Tea and again it couldn't be faulted. Saving the best to the last - the personnel. From the manager down I have never experienced such a wonderful service and they made our stay perfect. They were courteous, professional and their attention to detail is forensic but also friendly, engaging and charming. If I had the resources, and they would allow it, I would take up residency at The Imperial.

I had a wonderful stay at the Imperial. The room was clean and comfortable with a lovely sea view. There was a great hot and cold buffet selection for breakfast, along with menu choices if desired. There was a harpist in the evening in the full, cosy bar. Staff were courteous and friendly. Street parking was a little tricky, but I was able to find a spot on the same street as the hotel each night. I was unable to reach a person when I called to advise of my late arrival, but check in was fine and there is a doorbell to alert a night attendant if the door is locked.

Overall very good. Staff very helpful and friendly. Food very good. Unfortunately, the daily specials menu was the same on some days and some elements were the same every day- the chef cannot be bothered? The dishes look like pieces of art but a little short on vegetables. The portions of vegetables might be equal to half of one of your five a day! The lady "head waiter" is really helpful and a very hard worker but appears to suffer from having new colleagues who do not work to her excellent standards.
