What visitors say
Excellent location for walking and enjoying the wildlife. Great for walking the dog ( on a leash!) Well maintained paths and viewpoints as well as hides to observe the water birds. Well sign posted with informative plaques. Lovely leafy forested areas and paths. You could spend the day here observing the wildlife.

Just to let everyone know RSPB was temporarily closed while renovation and update work was being carried out, but the work has now been completed and it’s officially open again. The new updates and redesigned areas look fantastic and have really improved the whole atmosphere. It’s a great place to visit if you enjoy nature, with plenty of beautiful wildlife to see, including swans, ducks, robins, and other small woodland birds, as well as butterflies, dragonflies, and other interesting insects around the area. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the whole place feels fresh, peaceful, and well looked after. Definitely worth visiting now that everything is finished highly recommended!

The newly updated facilities at RSPB Lochwinnoch are fantastic. The new viewing area has been thoughtfully designed, with accessible ramps and a series of viewing windows built into the privacy screen at different heights. This lets everyone, including wheelchair users and children, enjoy fantastic views of the scrape while allowing the birds to remain largely undisturbed. The reserve itself offers a great walk, and we’re really looking forward to completing the full circuit around Aird Meadow Loch once the new boardwalk is finished in 2027. If you enjoy wildlife, this is well worth a visit. And if you’re not already a member, consider joining the RSPB—your membership helps support places like this and the important conservation work they do.

A lot of work by everyone involved and the place is looking really good. There is a broad walk which circles the whole area. It's on hold while it's breeding season. Then it will be a complete circular route. It does get busy on a weekend. But there are activities to keep the kids busy. You do have to pay for parking, unless you are members then all you do is present your membership card at the meters. There are usually people on site to ask or solve your questions. One of the main birds are the lapwings and the amazing way they swoop and turn in the air. Also their unusual calls, which doesn't sound natural. It is an RSPB site, so remember it is all about the birds and wild life.
