About Abbey Wood Experience Freedom Glamping
Abbey Wood is the most convenient full-service campsite in London for anyone who wants to see the city without driving into it. The site occupies a sheltered, tree-screened plot in the south-east of the capital, immediately beside Lesnes Abbey Woods and the ruins of the twelfth-century abbey that gives the area its name. Abbey Wood station is under fifteen minutes' walk from the gate, and since the Elizabeth line arrived the journey into central London has become genuinely quick—around twenty minutes, with no changes.
The pitches are laid out on gently sloping ground among mature trees, which keeps the site feeling green and takes the edge off traffic noise from the nearby road. There's a mix of hardstanding and grass, with electric hook-up available throughout, and the site takes touring caravans, motorhomes and tents, along with camping pods for anyone arriving without kit. Facilities are comprehensive: heated toilet and shower blocks, family bathrooms, laundry, dishwashing, a motorhome service point, an on-site shop for basics and a children's play area. Wi-Fi is available across the site, which matters more here than at a rural park given how many guests are working out their travel plans each evening.
What people come for is the combination of a quiet night and easy access. You can be at the Tower of London, Greenwich or the South Bank inside an hour, come back to a proper pitch and a shower block, and spend the following morning walking in Lesnes Abbey Woods, which are carpeted with wild daffodils in spring and hold a fossil bed open to the public. The site is open all year and is one of the busiest in the network, particularly with European visitors in summer, so weekends and school holidays need booking well ahead.

Lovely little camping cabin. Note there's electricity but not water supply. "Bed" not amazing. Was relieved I could get into site late and out early (key fob says gates closed 22:00-8:00). Friendly staff, friendly fellow campers. Nice spacious showers. Really near Abbey Wood station so great for my commute (!)

Lovely site with lots of trees and parakeets ! The pod was lovely too just about big enough, bed not so comfortable tbh far too hard and springy for adults, ok for a few days, shower was good, very cosy at night looking out, When the bed was pulled down the side alcoves were very dusty and dirty, loo seat was loose, easy to miss I guess but not good all the same. Staff were friendly, easy access to London, no where to eat really so bring your own food & drinks
