About Ash Farm Country House

Ash Farm sits on Park Lane at Little Bollington, a hamlet on the edge of the Dunham Massey estate south-west of Manchester. The house dates from the eighteenth century, is owned by the National Trust and was a working farm until relatively recently; it is now run as a four-star guest house of a kind that has become rare in the North West, where the owners are on site and the breakfast is cooked rather than assembled.

The bedrooms are all en suite, individually furnished in keeping with the age of the building, and equipped with flat-screen televisions, tea and coffee trays, biscuits and mineral water. Free wi-fi runs throughout and there is free private parking, which is essential out here. A sun terrace looks over the garden, and the scale of the place — a handful of rooms rather than a corridor of them — means it works better for couples and walkers than for groups.

Breakfast is a full English served in a room overlooking the front lawn, and it is consistently the thing guests mention. The location suits anyone who wants countryside with the city in reach: Dunham Massey deer park is under ten minutes' walk, the Bridgewater Canal towpath about five, and the Trafford Centre and Altrincham are both a short drive. Altrincham has a Metrolink terminus with trams into Manchester in around half an hour, and Manchester Airport is roughly fifteen minutes away by car, which makes this a calm alternative to the airport hotels.

An older family member stayed here off and on for 3 weeks while visiting us locally. She had such a wonderful time! The rooms are nicely furnished and comfortable, and on beautiful grounds. She slept so well and loved how peaceful it was. The breakfasts are beautifully displayed and food fresh and delicious. Thank you to David, Janice, and Christian for making her feel so welcome and making it the perfect "home away from home"!

An Absolute Gem—Warm Hospitality at Its Finest! We recently spent a wonderful weekend in Room 4, and I am writing this review specifically to highlight the incredible standards of hospitality and old-fashioned manners that made our stay unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the welcome we received from David and Janice was so warm and genuine that it felt like we were catching up with old friends. The customer service here is simply excellent. David and Janice truly cannot do enough for you, and their attentiveness is unmatched. David is a remarkable host—incredibly knowledgeable about the local area, generous with his time, and a true gentleman whose traditional manners are a breath of fresh air.As for the food, the traditional English breakfast is absolutely unbelievable. Janice uses the finest fresh ingredients, including delicious, freshly baked bread that was a highlight of our mornings.Room 4 was a perfect base for the weekend. Combined with immaculate service and hosts who make you feel completely at home, this is the place to be. We cannot recommend it highly enough!

Great little B&B, a fairly short Uber ride from Manchester Airport but in a relaxed country setting. Next door to a pub and a short walk to the National Trust property, Dunham Massey. Great breakfast and nice people.
