Elsie's Hut is a single-bedroom shepherd's hut on a working farm just outside Hassocks, in Mid Sussex. It's a proper hut—built from timber, lit by solar panels, warmed by a wood burner—but finished to a high standard with oak flooring and contemporary interiors. The one bedroom has a double bed; the shower room includes a toilet, Belfast sink and storage. Everything is on the ground floor, accessible by four steps to the entrance.
The kitchen is split between indoors (where you can prepare things) and an undercover external area with a camping stove, sink and barbecue. There's a firepit too, and a lawned garden with seating and tables. WiFi is available but limited to messaging and browsing; streaming video requires you to download before arrival. Electricity, bed linen, towels and initial logs are included. Two cars can park on site.
This is working farmland—you'll meet Vic and Bob the goats, Alan and Malcolm the alpacas, and several sheep. Walking trails start from the door; the South Downs National Park is nearby. Brighton and the sea are a 20-minute drive away. Local amenities include two pubs within a mile, a garden centre with a café, and a vineyard. No smoking is permitted.

We enjoyed a very relaxing and peaceful couple of nights in this cozy hut with a beautiful view. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a country escape.

Stayed here after our holiday abroad was cancelled last minute. Really peaceful location with plenty of great places to eat nearby. We spent an afternoon at the vineyard just down the road and had a lovely time. The hut itself was well-furnished and Elaine was really friendly. Would highly recommend.

A well thought out nicely furnished rural retreat within walking distance of a pub, restaurant and vineyard. Elsie’s is comfortable and well equipped with its own little plot containing outdoor covered kitchen, open fire and seating. Inside the bijou shepherds hut is a warm shower, comfy bed and wood burner although the hut is so well insulated I imagine it’s seldom needed outside winter. Plenty of thoughtful touches from the owner, lots of public footpaths to explore, curious goats and a vineyard offering tastings a short walk away. A thoroughly relaxing and enchanting place to stay.

We just spent a lovely two nights in Elsie's Hut. It's described as Glamping but I'd say it's a big step up, with running water and electricity and really good outside cooking facilities. We certainly had everything we needed and enjoyed the wonderful location, especially the miles of Public Footpaths (including one right outside the gate) allowing us to explore the countryside. Being so close to the animals - including Vic and Bob the pygmy goats and Pepe the Alpaca - made it extra special.
