Boatman’s Cottage

Built in 1863, Boatman's Cottage is a traditional stone cottage that once housed sail-makers in Portessie. The village sits just metres from the coast, with a sandy beach and harbour within easy reach. The building has been carefully updated—the kitchen and bathroom downstairs are modern and functional, while period character remains in the shuttered windows and wood-burning stove. A decked area with a picnic table looks out towards the water and Seal Island.

The cottage has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Upstairs, the double room and twin room share a Jack and Jill ensuite, while the principal bedroom has its own shower room. Downstairs is a comfortable living and dining space, plus a second sitting room. The kitchen is equipped for cooking properly, with a gas cooker, dishwasher and microwave. Heating, electricity, bed linen and Wi-Fi are included; initial logs for the burner come with the booking. One car parks on site, with additional spaces on the seafront road. Dogs stay free and receive a welcome pack on arrival, as do all guests.

The surrounding area offers cycling on a disused railway line that now runs for miles, exploration of fishing villages and harbours, and boat trips from Buckie to spot dolphins and seals. Golf courses are scattered throughout Moray. The whisky and castle trails are accessible nearby. The pub is 350 yards away and shops and restaurants 500 yards. Smoking is not permitted inside.
