About Hillyard House Hotel
Hillyard House occupies a spot on Castle Avenue in the middle of Castlewellan, close enough to the entrance of Castlewellan Forest Park to walk to the lake, arboretum and Peace Maze in a few minutes. The building has been fitted out in a modern style rather than traditional country house décor, with 20 en-suite rooms across a range of sizes including family rooms and an accessible room.
The Yard Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Mrs Coleman's Bar keeps a more traditional pub atmosphere, with an afternoon tea service also available.
Castlewellan makes a quieter alternative to Newcastle as a base, roughly ten minutes away by car, and puts guests close to the northern approaches to the Mournes as well as the forest park on the doorstep.

Three of us had stayed for one night last week whilst walking in the Mournes, and it was our first time staying at Hillyard House Hotel. The rooms were clean and well appointed and the staff very helpful and courteous. The highlight was the meal we booked for the evening of our stay. Every course was very tasty indeed - our compliments to the chef! And not too expensive. Thanks for a great stay.

Lovely boutique hotel just at the gates of the Park in Castlewellan . Very nice friendly staff. Cosy bar and bright modern dining area. Bedroom and bathroom were spotless. Breakfast is cooked to order which is great . I think this hotel should definitely be rated as a four star. I have stayed in other four star hotels that are not near as nice . Would definitely return .

We had a fantastic stay at this hidden gem, perfectly located right on the doorstep of Castlewellan Forest Park. The staff were all incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. The food was excellent, with the beef brisket at dinner being a real highlight. Breakfast also offered a great variety of options to choose from. Our room was modern, spotless, and equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely be returning soon!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for the first time this week. It was a very nice visit. The room was small but comfortable, clean and well decorated. The staff were extremely friendly especially Catriona in the restaurant, and David in the bar. The evening meal was very good. The sauces for the starter and main dish were very tasty indeed. Our cooked breakfast was lovely. We will certainly be returning to sample the hospitality again. The rate for one night's bed, breakfast and evening meal was very competitive.
