Forest park camping below the Mourne Mountains, around 32 miles from Belfast
About Castlewellan Forest Park Caravan Site
Castlewellan Forest Park's touring site tucks into a sheltered clearing among mature conifers, with the Mourne Mountains rising immediately to the south. The park itself—1,100 acres of woodland built around a large ornamental lake and Victorian arboretum—spreads out from your pitch, and visitors consistently praise the setting and cleanliness of facilities. Hook-up pitches for caravans and motorhomes sit alongside a separate tent area, all with modern shower blocks and a small shop for basics during peak season.
Cycling and walking trails lace the estate, from gentle lakeside loops to longer forest routes, and dogs are welcome on leads. Castlewellan village is a five-minute walk for pubs and shops. Some note the site can feel a little utilitarian compared to the grandeur of the park itself, but it's hard to argue with the location—Tollymore and Newcastle are minutes away, and the Mourne Wall walks start practically from the gate. Belfast sits an hour north, making this more countryside retreat than city stopover.

Simply beautiful spot. You could easily spend a full day here we were down just for the afternoon so only had time for the lake walk which was truly beautiful definitely would recommend this for a great family day out. There a lovely wee coffee van aswell providing the goods which is always essential

We spent two nights here in our campervan. Great campsite - facilities were good and site was very popular with families, safe place for kids to roam about on their bikes. Really nice parkland and lake, plenty to do both on site or a short drive away (we barely scratched the surface). The maze was fun too!

Place is great for mountain bike trails but unfortunately alot of walkers feel entitled to walk down the trails with jumps and blind corners, there is little small no walking signs on the post but theyre ignored. There was a woman today that refused to stand to the side and acting like im the problem for coming down fast, even though she shouldn't of been down it to begin with. Please put bigger signs up saying mountain bike only
