Martin Down nature reserve lies just 300 yards away, making this converted barn ideal for anyone planning woodland walks across chalk grassland or rides along the bridle paths that crisscross the area. The hamlet itself has kept its character—the Norman church is accessible straight from the garden, and the village green still displays the 15th-century cross base. Salisbury and Winchester are within easy reach by car, as are the coastal towns of Poole, Bournemouth and Southampton if you want to venture further.

Princess Cottage is a detached property with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, sleeping four. Everything is on the ground floor: an open-plan living and dining space with a woodburner, a kitchen with a cooker, dishwasher and washing machine, a double bedroom with an ensuite shower, and a second bedroom with two single beds and a separate shower room. The essentials—electricity, wi-fi, bed linen and towels—are all included.

Outside, you have a private enclosed garden with a patio, sitting area, barbecue and a natural wooden play structure. There is parking for two cars on site. The garden has sloping banks and a pond about 100 yards away. Smoking is not permitted.

We have stayed at this cottage several times. It is well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable holiday. This time we did feel that the cottage needed a bit of attention. There was no guest book to write in and no notepaper to put comments on and I wouldn't put those sort of details in a review anyway. It is a good base from which to enjoy the New Forest.
