Chewton Glen

Just for being the Chewton Glen high expectations are already set as reputation alone for many years has always be exceptional, this was a long awaited trip for many years i had wanted to stay and was lucky to be gifted a voucher for my 40th birthday, my husband had also gone through major health problems so this stay was a relax and restore and something we had been very much looking forward to. The booking system was easy and the emails and contact from guest services were great on arrival we had a seat and a lovely arrival drink, check in was smooth and easy. On first glance at the room all seemed well and we loved the little balcony but the more you were in the room the more you saw that was not nice and had a "dirty" feel about it i.e. carpets filthy and stained, shower room scum, dirt and limescale tarnished silver, wallpaper marks, marks on headboard etc there also was no information on room service or menus, no details to refer to when breakfast times were opening and closing info on the spa etc that we could have read through at leisure. First day we were there the bar service was very slow and hard to catch anyone to get a menu or a drink, dirty tables in the garden attracting seagulls, wasps. We went to the spa after the bar lunch it was nice as we had the hydro area to ourselves for a while the space is really big and bright but tired around the edges and in some of the areas the tiles were dirty limescale and cracked. Restaurant service for dinner our server was "ok" the food was "ok" best bit of dinner was the dessert you have an excellent pastry chef. After dinner we went for a walk and headed to the walled gardens which were lovely and all lit up as it was still dusk but our walk around and option to sit on one of the many areas in there was cut short as the garden was being locked up so felt we had to leave however there were no signs to say opening and closing times. Breakfast was ok nice selection on the buffet but the hot food was not spectacular sausage was hard to cut through the poached eggs were filled with water and the egg white was still snotty/raw very off putting no real check backs when hot food placed down none of our dirty bowls/plates removed. We checked out and was still welcome to stay we had a lovely walk around the grounds and had afternoon tea before we headed home which out of all the service was probably the best the team for the afternoon tea were very good the message of the happy birthday and candle was a lovely special touch the staff were happy bubbly and chatty, the onion bread on the corination chicken sandwhich was delious and having warm scones was lovely, all the cakes were delious couldnt manage it all and as we took most of it home our children also very much enjoyed these to. Lovely touch on the way home with the water and fudge for the journey. Overall we enjoyed our time at chewton as it was a long awaited time away from normal day to day, the grounds, beautiful plants and maintained outdoor areas were wonderful, the peace, and quiet, the weather and scenery made this stay for us. We would describe our stay as "rough around the edges" and what should have been perfection for your reputation really wasnt, which is quite sad

Really lovely evening at the spa with my mum. There was a large swimming pool and separate hydrotherapy pool room. We loved the complimentary cold water and the steam rooms too! The charcuterie board was huge and really tasty. Best bread I’ve ever had so nice and grilled!

All in all a wonderful experience - would definitely come back! LIKES 🩷 Kid friendly but not overrun with kids All the things provided for my baby, including changing mat, diaper bin, potty, bath tub, cot All staff were very pleasant, including Nicki at The Kitchen, and the porters who stored the pram for us and brought it out whenever we needed it The Kitchen stored and heated our baby food Nature walks Kitchen garden Indoor and outdoor pool Strawberry water at the spa Plenty of water provided at the room Kids plates and bowls at breakfast Welcome present for the baby DISLIKES 👎 No veg on the breakfast buffet Bathrooms could use an upgrade Squeaky doors and windows Indoor pool was very cold

Another delightful stay at Chewton Glen. The location, quality of decor and staff all make your stay as relaxed and welcoming as possible. Well located in the heart of the New Forest, plenty of historical site or just chill with the Ponies, Deer and various Arboretum, or only 35 mins to Bournemouth, or simply staying at the hotel and ample activities on site. From the spa, to tennis, golf, games room for kids, the outdoor heated pool. The Janes Martin cookery school, and 2 lovely restaurants onsite means you are spoiled for choice.
