What visitors say

We were based at Newton Stewart for 2 weeks in Dumfries and Galloway, never been to this part of Scotland before and we loved the peace and quite, and no traffic Lots of English people seem to retire here and we were a bit surprised that we didn't meet many local residents. Great base for touring around tge Galloway Forest, the Red Deer 🦌 range was amazing, I've never been as close to a deer before, we visited the wild goat park twice but both times there was not a goat in sight Plenty of lovely walks well signposted, we enjoyed Black Loch and were disappointed we couldn't access the waterfall due to recent heavy rainfall, it was just too muddy, and we didn't want to fall and have to call for an Air Ambulance. 😀 The lodge we stayed in at Conifers was fantastic, we never stayed in a lodge or been in a hot tub before, so 2 new experiences for us to try . No traffic lights anywhere, a dog no car parking charges, excellent Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Absolutely gorgeous national park. How did I not know this existed? Beauty everywhere you look. Waterfalls, hills, rivers, wildlife, rolling landscapes. There's also no light pollution giving gorgeous views of the milky way (£10 to park all night)

Merrick hill is the highest peak in Southern Scotland, surrounded by the Galloway Forest with lots of outdoor activities available. Great day out

I have been to two sites within the forest park, Kirroughtree and Glentrool. Both outstanding area's of natural beauty. Whether you are walking or on your bike, you will not be disappointed. The Forestry and Land Scotland, obviously do an incredible job of keeping these area's for all to experience. Well done to all of those who work there 👏
