Ashover Cottage
North East Derbyshire
Ashover Cottage is a traditional stone building with the kind of period character that comes from genuine age and use rather than applied nostalgia. The heart of the place is its AGA cooker, around which the kitchen naturally organises itself—a focal point for cooking proper meals and lingering over breakfast. In the sitting room, a wood-burning stove does what it has done for decades: throws real heat and draws people towards it on cold evenings. Steep stairs lead up to two bedrooms; one contains a bed that can be configured as a super-king or split into two singles if you arrange this when booking. The bathroom upstairs has both a bath and shower. A downstairs cloakroom offers practical convenience, and a football table provides entertainment when the weather keeps you indoors.
The cottage sits surrounded by open countryside, with Ashover village within easy reach and a pub less than a mile away. From here, local walks start practically on the doorstep, while Matlock, Bakewell and the wider Peak District lie within a short drive. This suits couples, friends or small families wanting genuine rural quiet without actual isolation. Electricity, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are included. No smoking is permitted. The steep stairs are simply part of the cottage's structure—something to note rather than apologise for.
