Dalby Forest is on your doorstep, with bridleways and paths starting from Fox Cub Cottage itself. The North York Moors Steam Railway and market town facilities are four miles away in Pickering—shops, restaurants, a leisure centre and swimming pool included. Goathland, Whitby and the Heritage Coast are all within a short drive. The Fox & Rabbit Inn sits a two-minute walk away, serving meals. This is proper walking country, and everything you need to base yourself here is built in.
The cottage sits at ground level in a courtyard of three properties on the village edge. One bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom with shower over the bath, and an open-plan living space that combines sitting area, dining and kitchen. You get a freeview TV and DVD player; the kitchen has an electric oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge for self-catering. Essentials like bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included, heating is by oil central heating, and there's ample private parking on site. A shared washing machine and tumble dryer sit in an external utility room. One dog stays free. No smoking inside.

Stayed here at the CL in our camper, Adrian is a fantastic host and can not do enough for you, great guy. The CL is in the courtyard of the cottages and is all gravel with all amenities except for toilet and shower facilities, it is adults only and dog freindly. The adjacent pub has a choice of drinks and the food is really good as well as being dog friendly, however, booking for a table is essential. There are numerous dog walks from the site and you can easily walk down to the Dolby Forest. Would thoroughly recommend for a quiet secluded weekend, we certainly will be returning.

We have just returned from our stay at Fox Cub Cottage. We loved everything about it, the spacious rooms, the decoration, it was so comfortable. Peace and quiet, a lovely pub next door. A warm welcome from Adrian who really could not have done more to make our week so enjoyable. Thank you Adrian, we will be back. Richard and Anne Harris

We stayed here with our dog in little fox cottage and had a great time. I was initially sceptical about being a bit far out of Pickering but in reality the location was ideal. There is a path directly to Dalby Forest and a walk there can easily use up a whole day. The pub next door was dog (and people) friendly with great food and Pickering is only a few mins away by car. The cottage was spotless and well equipped with everything needed for that home away from home feel. Adrian was as friendly and welcoming as the other reviews suggest and yes, there was a cake! I would happily recommend F&R Cottages to any couples looking for a nice relaxing getaway.

What a fabulous week we have had, Adrian made us so welcome and made us feel at home. Our cottage was beautiful and spotless and lacked for nothing. We were in such a great location for everything, walking in Dalby forest, over the moors, Whitby and the spectacular steam train and lots of tourist attractions. We will definitely return in the future.
