Seaton Hall - Sir Francis Bigod

North Yorkshire

Seaton Hall – Sir Francis Bigod sits within the grounds of an ancient manor, its history stretching back over a thousand years. The cottage is a self-contained base for four people, with direct access and parking for two cars on site. One dog is welcome, and there is no charge for it to stay.

The ground floor holds a living room with a woodburner and a 50-inch Smart TV, plus a kitchen/dining space equipped for proper cooking – electric cooker, dishwasher, American-style fridge, slow cooker and coffee machine are all there. Upstairs, one bedroom has a double bed and the other has two singles; both rooms have en-suite bathrooms with baths and showers. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included, as are the initial logs for the woodburner. A travel cot and highchair are available if needed.

Outside, a patio with garden furniture overlooks a large lawn (shared with other properties on the estate), and beyond that stretch tree-lined valleys and rolling countryside leading towards the North York Moors. The walled moat, still visible in the grounds, is a reminder of the medieval fortification that once stood here. The nearest shop is the Co-op in Staithes on Whitby Road. No smoking inside.

Absolutely loved it. Felt like lord of the manor the moment I walked in and ideally located for places like Staithes harbour, Saltburn by the sea, Sandsend and Whitby. Lovely cafe and antiques centre right next door to the accommodation. Would definitely go stay again

We stayed at Lady de Seton cottage, this January. Absolutely beautiful, very quirky and has everything we could possibly need. Very clean and tidy when we arrived, owner William came straight away to check everything was OK The cafe is just next door and we ate there for breakfast. The girls are lovely and very helpful, nothing too much trouble. Rate 100% and will definitely come back.

Just stayed with a party of 20 for my 60th birthday. It was amazing .We had a great time - from my parents who are 92 & 90 years old to my great nephews and niece, it was ideal. We stayed in the hall, the cottage and the annexe. William, the owner, was very welcoming and accommodating allowing us to move furniture to make easier access for my parents. The facilities for cooking were great with plenty of big pots and pans, glasses of all shapes and sizes etc. The beds were comfortable and there is lots of room in and out to relax and have fun.
