We called in The Herdsman on the off chance they could fit us in for Sunday Lunch [28.06.26].. despite having a huge party already in, they managed to squeeze us in - Happy Dayz!! We had 'the best' Sunday Lunch, both having the 'rare' Beef... alongside beautifully cooked veggies and a huge Yorkshire Pudding.. with a side of cauliflower cheese. The decor in the pub is so tasteful ... with lovely staff too. We will definitely visit again. 5* for a wonderful Country Pub.

What a great find looking for a place to eat off the A1. Incredibly good food cooked to perfection, we had the beef brisket and the ribeye with a side of vegetables. Service was friendly and extremely competent, thanks to Mel who had plenty of time for us despite being the only food waitress on shift (it was a Thursday). We ended up stopping for a game of darts and chatting with the landlord Adam, what a great evening.

The best food i have ever tasted! this is the first time i have tried the herdsman since the new family took over ownership (not a brewery). what a beautiful pub in a lovely village! the food is all homemade and after speaking to chef Roberto who kindly introduced himself to me, I could sense this place really cares about what they are cooking and the presentation of each dish. the price of each dish was similar to other pubs in the area and it blows the rest away by a country mile. they have jeremy clarksons hawkstone lager! lovely open fires and log burners and excellent staff. i spoke to a gentleman behind the bar called isacc. He was oustanding - he told me all about the pub, the direction its heading, what to do in the area and just his mannerism was second to none. he even called me sir, just a next level of standard english we have lost in recent times! i will be returning and i can't wait! thank you once again.

The Sunday roast was 10/10! The beef was so tender it just pulled away from the fork. Perfect amount of veg/roasties. Salmon was so tasty too! And a lovely cheesecake to finish! We travelled from Darlington and worth the visit!
