The Shepherd

The Shepherd is a ground-floor lodge built around a wraparound deck and hot tub. Two bedrooms—one double, one with twin singles—share a shower room with the open-plan living space, which combines kitchen, dining area and lounge under one roof. A woodburner and smart TV anchor the sitting area; the kitchen has an electric oven, gas hob and the basics for cooking. Bed linen, towels, heating and wi-fi are provided, and one car can be parked on site. One well-behaved pet stays free of charge.

The property sits within walking distance of Appletreewick, a village with two pubs serving food and local ales. The surrounding North Yorkshire landscape offers walks ranging from riverside paths along the River Wharfe to more strenuous routes up Simon's Seat and through the Valley of Desolation, which leads to Posforth Gill waterfall. The decking and garden furniture make it easy to spend time outside, and the hot tub—sized for four—is positioned to catch the evening light. No smoking indoors.
