The Wheelhouse started life as a working mill, and its most distinctive feature is the garden room—originally the wheelhouse where horses powered the threshing machinery. That room is now a generous space to relax in after exploring the North York Moors, which surround the property on all sides. Exposed stonework runs through the house, a reminder of its practical past.
Two bedrooms upstairs—one double, one with zip-and-link single beds—share a bathroom with a bath and shower. Downstairs, the living and dining area opens onto the garden through French doors, with a separate second sitting room and kitchen equipped for proper cooking. Everything you need is here: Wi-Fi, heating, bed linen and towels included. Two cars can park on site, and one dog is welcome, as long as it stays on a lead.
The village of Swainby lies two miles away; Thirsk market town is within reach for supplies or an evening out. For walkers, the Moors start at the garden gate. The coast—Whitby, its fishing villages and Saltburn—takes under an hour to drive to.
