Holiday caravan park near Ashington with entertainment for children and beach access.
About Sandy Bay Holiday Park
Sandy Bay Holiday Park is a caravan park suited to families wanting entertainment and beach time, though couples and touring caravanners also stay here. The caravans themselves are comfortable, and the site has showers. A beach is within easy reach.
The main draw for families is the entertainment programme for children. However, the standard of cleaning in the caravans can be inconsistent, and some visitors have found staff unhelpful, so it's worth checking the condition of your accommodation on arrival and managing expectations around service.

What visitors say
Lovely location, awful holiday park and awful company! Location is fantastic and staff where mostly friendly but that's the only positives! We paid extra for decking and got roughly 3sqft outside a door that opens outwards, it was was completely unusable. I contacted reception and head office, only to be told that the small area is classed as decking and no refund would be issued. It was an accessible caravan that area was mandatory to get a wheelchair into the caravan, it is not decking thats classed as an extra privilege to pay for! Complete rip off and we had very much been mis-sold, so beware when paying for decking. The caravan was decent but absolutely stank! We had the windows open to try and get rid of it, and it didn't go. The sheets on the double bed where too small and didn't tuck in under the mattress, so we'd woke up in the morning realising we where on the bare mattress! Things like the grill and pans hadn't been cleaned and we had to clean them. On the Saturday night the police came into the park twice with lights and sirens on. At night the family atmosphere had gone, we didn't stay out late with the kids as a result. We are never going back and will not book with Parkdean again!

Just returned from a week here during Tots Week and overall we had a really enjoyable stay. We stayed in a Gold Premium caravan, which was lovely overall. The only negatives were that the carpet didn’t appear to have been vacuumed for a while and the sofa was quite sunken in the middle. However, we were kindly provided with a vacuum cleaner, which we used throughout the week. We also had an issue with the caravan door not locking on the first night, but maintenance came out promptly and resolved it for us. Aside from those issues, the caravan was very clean, comfortable, and we slept well throughout our stay. The entertainment team were fantastic – 10/10. We especially enjoyed the evening entertainment and the milkshake mornings. I had seen mention of an indoor soft play area online, but we didn’t come across it during our stay, although it’s possible I missed it. That said, my son absolutely loved the park and we spent plenty of time there. The swimming pool was quite basic and, unfortunately, wasn’t really a highlight of our stay. It was perfectly adequate, but compared to other holiday parks we’ve visited, there wasn’t a great deal to it. The site itself is small, peaceful, and well maintained. It was a little disappointing that some of the shops, such as the ice cream shop, weren’t open during the week. The beach is beautiful with stunning views, and it was definitely one of the highlights of our stay. Overall, we had a great holiday and would happily recommend this site to others, particularly for families looking for a quieter seaside break.

So the 1st evening wasn't great this place was living up to some of its recent poor reviews, I had a static next door to 2 teenage girls (no adults around got a feeling it was an off the books booking) who were playing loud music into the evening on there doorstep. Called security who came round and they were all on first name terms, am thinking great hardly going to scare them. But they turned it down and eventually got through the night. Thankfully they left the next day and what followed was a lovely week on site. Entertainment staff were great and having to deal with the showbar being out of action due to a roof leak they still put on a good makeshift performance every night. Site was clean and even won a competition for a free activity. Swimming pool was lovely, warm & clean. The younger male bar staff were pretty poor, Older women not to bad. Food was also good. Good access onto the beach which is lovely clear water and quite shallow. Only thing letting the beach down was the people, With litter around. Overall would recommend and go again.

What a lovely time we’ve had. The entertainment on a night time is brilliant! The whole team go above and beyond and really look like they love their job, they need a medal for putting up with all them kids haha. I can’t remember all the girls names but I do remember Chantelle & Jessie who have the most fabulous voices! Erin who brings so much energy to the dances and two other girls who didn’t stop dancing! They were brilliant and literally keep the energy all the time. You are very lucky to have them. Weather was beautiful which is always a bonus so some lovely walks on the beach and along the coast into Newbiggen too. Perfect week!
