Dolphin Cottage

Northumberland

View on Google Maps

Newbiggin-by-the-Sea sits on Northumberland's heritage coast, a genuine fishing community where coble boats still work the bay alongside the long, flat promenade that stretches out to a sandy beach. The village has kept its character—an Italian ice cream parlour run by the same family for years, the RNLI station where the crew practises most Sundays, the Maritime Centre with its lifeboat museum and café. Walking distance brings you to pubs, cafes and shops; a bowling club is nearby, and the cliff-top golf course overlooks the water.

Dolphin Cottage sleeps five across three bedrooms: a double, a zip-and-link room with two singles, and a single. There is one bathroom with a shower cubicle. The ground floor has a living and dining room with television, and a kitchen equipped to cook proper meals. A utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer is useful for longer stays. The small enclosed garden has a patio, and on-road parking is available. Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are provided; bring your own welcome mood. The cottage does not permit smoking.

This stretch of coast rewards exploration beyond the village—rockpools at both ends of the bay when the tide drops, spots for paddleboarding and surfing, the offshore statue called The Couple. Morpeth's market town lies eight miles inland with shops and restaurants; the heritage coast runs north towards Holy Island and beyond. Whether you come for the beach, the fishing heritage or as a base to explore further, the setting is distinctly Northumbrian.
