Couples and small families will find East Cottage a characterful base for exploring Northumberland. This two-bedroom Victorian workers' cottage sits on a historic working farm two miles from Rothbury, with one dog welcome (kept on a lead in the working areas, though there is an enclosed space where it can run freely). The property sleeps four: a king bedroom and a twin on the first floor, with a bathroom featuring a bath and shower. Downstairs, a living and dining room centres on a woodburner, while the kitchen has an Esse Range and electric cooker for cooking proper meals.
The cottage combines period character with practical essentials: electricity, heating, wifi, bed linen and towels are all included. You get a lawned garden with seating and a BBQ, parking for two cars on site, and a bike store. The water supply is natural. The building dates to the 1880s, when Lord Armstrong built it as part of his model farm; the site also contains the only surviving agricultural weigh bridge in the UK. From here you can reach Cragside House, or take advantage of salmon and trout fishing nearby (by arrangement, licence required). The location sits on the edge of the National Park and qualifies as Dark Skies Friendly. No smoking.
