Photo: Spindrift Stories

Cornhill-on-Tweed sits on the Scottish border with the Tweed running through it, a quiet village where the pace of life slows considerably. Spindrift is a ground floor apartment positioned to take full advantage of the setting, with windows framing the water and a patio stepping straight out to it. The whole place is yours alone, with two king bedrooms, each with its own ensuite, and space to spread out across a proper kitchen, dining area and comfortable living room. One well-behaved dog can come along at no extra cost.

The apartment runs to a high standard throughout—oak flooring, granite worktops, quality linens. Both bedrooms have French doors opening to outdoor space, one to a front patio with seating, the other to a sheltered courtyard. The kitchen handles real cooking with a ceramic hob, electric oven and dishwasher. Electricity, Wi-Fi, towels and bed linen come as standard. There is private parking for one car and somewhere to lock up bikes.

The Heatherslaw Corn Mill is a short drive away if you want a day out. The village itself is genuinely quiet; this suits couples or small groups looking for somewhere to settle rather than a base for constant activity. No children under 6 years old, and smoking is not permitted indoors.

Like this place. Nice to spend a bit of time there. Nice walk round the grounds and a canny little cafe at the post office.

Steam train ride for the kids, what's not to like? The water wheel mill with baking for the kids was the star of the show.
