Eating out in the Peak District ranges from stone-built pubs with fires and hearty menus to city-centre restaurants in Derby covering everything from Greek to South Indian cooking. Buxton has a good spread of independent cafes and restaurants around its Georgian centre, while smaller towns and villages tend to revolve around a single well-used pub doing food alongside the drinking side.
Further out towards Long Eaton and Swadlincote, expect more everyday spots: diners, sports venues with their own catering, and cafes geared to passing trade rather than destination dining. Derbyshire's market towns fill the middle ground, with pubs like Hodgkinsons Hotel showing how many of these places double as places to stay.
With over a thousand options listed, it is worth deciding first whether you want a proper sit-down meal, a quick café stop, or a pub that welcomes walkers straight off the hills, as the choice shifts considerably between the national park villages and the larger towns on its edges.
