Things to Do in the Peak District
23 attractions and days out

The Peak District mixes wide open moorland with market towns, and its attractions reflect that split. Around Edale and Kinder the appeal is the Dark Peak landscape itself, with walking country that needs no ticket office. In Matlock Bath, Buxton and Ashbourne, days out lean more towards visitor attractions proper, from old mines like Temple Mine to indoor activities that fill a wet afternoon.
Families travelling with children will find a good spread of farm and animal experiences, such as Clary Meadows Alpacas and Dinky Hooves, alongside play centres like Sugar Snap Play and Peak Performance Dog Gym for those with restless pets as well as restless kids. For something more active, climbing walls, escape rooms and adventure venues around Chesterfield, Glossop and Dronfield give an alternative to hillwalking when the weather turns.
Because the towns sit some distance apart, it is worth grouping a day out by area rather than crossing the whole region at once, taking in Ashbourne Recreation Ground or a Matlock-based activity before heading up towards the high moors.
