After moving home to Leeds (growing up in Thurlstone) I can honestly say this leisure centre is worth its weight in gold! Such an underrated venue in Penistone. It is completely community run and the classes are so good- a lot of gyms over in Leeds and other places have virtual classes (tv on and nobody there) which is so boring and lacking the human touch, but Penistone does it proper- always in person and with such an array of classes from Tai Chi to Roller Skating. The staff are always so helpful and eager to get you booked in, even if it means them opening the gym up so we can play a bit of badminton. The circuit classes are really good- basically hyrox- very fashionable nowadays but Penistone has always been doing it! The gym has everything you need- I am a professional rugby league athlete and built the foundations of my body in this humble gym. Forget the fancy gyms and traveling to Barnsley or Stocksbridge- this humble little leisure centre has everything you need.

I thoroughly enjoy the weekly DDMIX class run by Mel. With a good mixture of dance styles and support from Mel, I have achieved a new fitness level that I'm proud of. The classes are open to all ages and at 65 I feel comfortable to exercise within my capabilities. I have made some lovely friends and have found the confidence to be me.
