About The Hinds Head
Anyone after a proper pub stay rather than a chain hotel room will feel at home at The Hinds Head. Set on Wasing Lane in Reading, Berkshire, it suits couples wanting a relaxed weekend, visitors heading to Newbury Racecourse, or travellers passing through who want somewhere with a bit of character and a warm welcome rather than an anonymous bed for the night.
The 15 rooms are comfortable and well-decorated, with thoughtful touches that lift them above the standard pub-room offering, and free WiFi and air conditioning are included throughout. Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar known for hearty food, particularly a well-regarded Sunday roast, though the menu itself runs on the shorter side. Staff are consistently friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is easy-going rather than formal. Guests can also make use of a gym, spa and sauna, and there's a garden for warmer days.
Practical extras include free on-site parking, a lift, laundry service and breakfast, plus the property welcomes pets and can host weddings. Aldermaston is about 1.6 miles away, and Newbury Racecourse gives race-day visitors an obvious reason to book in nearby.

What guests say
What a great find. Met friends for Sunday lunch. Staff were very accommodating as needed a bit of extra room due to one of the party being on crutches. Great service, food was exemplary, good selection and well presented. Made a couple of special requests which were no problem. Puds were a delight; the mini creme brulee was joyful. Highly recommend if you're in the area and looking for a lovely, relaxing, Sunday lunch.

Couldn't recommend this hotel enough. We booked to stay here as we were trading at a local event. We broke down on the way down to reading and got stranded on the motorway for 6hr so I phoned the hotel to tell them the situation that we would be checking in late. They were so accommodating they even let our friends who were also staying in the hotel collect our key for us. The staff are super friendly and attentive the breakfast was amazing!!! They even did a take out bacon sandwich for our friends partner so she could take it to the event for him as he had to be there early so would miss breakfast. Rooms are huge and very lovely decorated. The bed is super comfy. We will definitely be returning.

We did not stay overnight, but if the rooms are as good as the food i’m sure they must be excellent. We use the Hinds Head in Aldermaston regularly, especially for Sunday Lunch. I would highly recommend all the Sunday roast, today I had the beef and my friend had the Chicken, both were perfect and i could eat a bowl of the beautiful & crispy roast potatoes. I would recommend booking a table if you go on a Sunday as it’s always busy. Franke and her team will made you very welcome, don’t forget to book
