The Anchorage is a stone cottage built into the quayside at Staithes, a fishing village tucked beneath cliffs on the North Yorkshire coast north of Whitby. From the windows you look across the harbour and into the bay. The building sits at ground level with the cliff face rising behind it, a setting that has drawn artists to the village since the early 1900s and earlier caught the attention of a young Captain Cook, who worked nearby in the 1740s.
Downstairs holds the living and dining room with a Freeview TV and electric fire, plus a kitchen equipped for proper cooking with an oven, hob, fridge and microwave. Upstairs are two bedrooms—one with a double bed, the other containing both a double and a single (the single suited to flexible sleeping arrangements)—and a bathroom with a bath, shower and toilet. The kitchen and bathroom were renovated in 2019. Electricity, bed linen and Wi-Fi are included; bring your own towels. One dog stays free. Parking for two cars comes with permits, a genuine rarity in the village.
Staithes is renowned among walkers; the Cleveland Way runs along the cliffs nearby, and the beach below is known for fossil hunting. The village itself has cobbled streets, restaurants, tea shops and an art gallery. There is no smoking in the property.
