About Tackeroo Caravan Site
Tucked into the tall pines and spruces of Cannock Chase AONB, Tackeroo Caravan Site offers a genuinely wild, back-to-basics camping experience on Forestry Commission land. This is no-frills territory – there are no showers or toilets, just taps for water, bins, and a chemical waste point – so you'll need to bring everything you need. But what it lacks in facilities it more than makes up for in location and atmosphere: spacious pitches scattered among the trees, direct access to superb walking trails, and the legendary Follow The Dog mountain biking route literally on your doorstep.
It's a peaceful, forested spot that draws riders, walkers and families happy to rough it a little. The nearby Birches Valley Visitor Centre (about a mile south) provides café sustenance, tourist info and family-friendly trails including the Gruffalo route and GoApe! activity centre. Prices are reasonable for such a sought-after area, though the uneven, gravelly terrain and total lack of electric hook-ups won't suit everyone.

What visitors say
It’s got fresh drinking water, a place to empty the loo, and that’s about it… because the forest is the real attraction. The ground is covered in pine cones, the wind whistles through the trees, squirrels are absolutely everywhere, and if you’re up early enough, you might even spot deer wandering through the woods. One of the best part is jump on your bike and you’re straight onto the Cannock Chase MTB trails. No driving, no hassle—just ride. It’s peaceful. It’s simple. It feels like you’re properly escaped the real world for a couple of days

What a magical place to park the campervan up for the night. Sounds odd to say but to listen to the forest when it's quite is a nice feeling indeed. There are many walks you can take and if you're a keen mountain biker good tracks to ride. We have been a few times now and have no worries to recommend this place as we will be returning many more times in the future.

Have used this place for around 35 years now... they now charge £25 per night! (This was a bank Holiday) Security is much improved with a coded gate. So, no unexpected boy racers interrupting your stay. The ranger is friendly and helpful. It does and always will be a special place for me as I took my children there from when they were babies. Thank you guys.

Great place to camp, lots of birds and wildlife. Lots of walking and mountain biking. No showers/toilets just water and bins. The warden very helpful, friendly. Will definitely be back.
