What visitors say
We have just returned from 3 nights camping and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mendip Basecamp. The location is fantastic, and the whole site is exceptionally clean and well maintained. Our children loved the facilities, particularly the giant draughts set and the indoor toy area, and we felt comfortable letting them explore as the site felt very safe and family friendly. The toilets and showers were always clean, with plenty of water points available around the site. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. The shop was well stocked, and we enjoyed the food from the Pavilion. Although we didn’t make use of all the onsite activities, we really enjoyed the orienteering and would love to try more of the facilities on our next visit. The live music on Friday evening was wonderful and created a lovely family festival atmosphere. Check-in and check-out were quick and straightforward. The fire pit we hired was excellent, and the children had great fun toasting marshmallows. The free charging point was also a very useful addition. Overall, Mendip Basecamp is a fantastic family camping site with everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. We will definitely be returning.

We had such a brilliant stay at Mendip Basecamp! It’s a fantastic place for a unique and memorable family getaway. We stayed in the bunk tents, which were a real highlight – really well set up, comfortable and such a fun experience for the kids. It made the whole stay feel like a proper adventure while still being easy and stress-free. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, and the whole site is very well organised. My kids absolutely loved it and there was plenty to keep them entertained. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, which made everything run smoothly. We came away with such lovely memories and would definitely return – highly recommend!

We stayed here for the first time this week and initially had a fantastic experience. The campsite itself is spacious, well-maintained, and very family-friendly. The facilities were clean and clearly looked after, and the onsite shop was a great addition—the pizzas in particular were excellent. We booked a glamphouse safari tent, which was spotlessly clean, spacious, and very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to extend it by an extra night, and were told by a member of staff that our tent was available. Unfortunately, this is where things went badly wrong. After spending the day at the beach, we returned to find staff packing up our belongings and informing us we needed to vacate immediately, as new guests were due to check in. It turned out that an error had been made when our additional night was booked, and our tent had never actually been available. We were then left, at the end of a long day, to quickly gather our belongings and move into a bunk tent. This was a significant downgrade—old, tired, and extremely cold overnight. The ladder to one of the by beds also snapped off as my 5 year old was descending it. Had we been given accurate information at the time of booking the additional night, we would have left as planned rather than extending our stay. While staff did offer a free coffee as an apology, this did feel wholly inadequate given the situation, though the ladies were super friendly and apologetic in their handling of the situation. Having our belongings handled and packed away without our consent due to a staff error was unacceptable and left us feeling very uncomfortable. I did not feel there was meaningful reimbursement or effort to properly resolve the situation, despite the inconvenience, distress, and clear downgrade in accommodation. This situation completely undermined what had otherwise been a very positive stay. While the site itself is excellent, this level of mismanagement and lack of proper resolution was gutting. Up until this point, we had been seriously considering returning for the mini festivals, but this experience has left us unsure. It’s a real shame, as the site itself is excellent, but this level of mismanagement, poor communication, and lack of appropriate compensation has significantly undermined our confidence in returning. Pros: Clean Great facilities Friendly staff Ample activities Good on sight shop with reasonable prices Respectful campers Beautiful scenery and walks EDIT- Update following response from management: I wanted to provide an update following my original review. After raising these issues, I was contacted directly by George from Mendip Adventure, who took the time to investigate thoroughly and respond in a very open and accountable way. He fully acknowledged that the situation should not have happened, particularly the incorrect booking, the handling of our belongings, and the alternative accommodation. He made it clear that steps are already being taken to improve their systems to prevent this in future. As part of resolving the issue, we were refunded the full cost of the additional night and offered a credit voucher as a gesture of goodwill. This felt like a much more appropriate and meaningful response, and I genuinely appreciate the way this was handled. While the experience on the night itself was upsetting and shouldn’t have happened, the follow-up and effort to put things right has restored some confidence. It’s clear the team do care about their guests and are willing to take responsibility when things go wrong. The site itself remains a fantastic place to stay, and we are now open to considering a return in the future.

First time camping and really enjoyed it Very family friendly campsite, and staff were 10/10 with the customer service. Shop was also reasonably priced. Stayed in a glamp house, was very spacious but got really hot during the day despite using the solar fan we brought with us, so i would say if going during heatwave bring a powerful fan. The campsite is lovely and we will definitely be returning.
