Beul-An-Latha
Scottish Borders
St Abbs is a working fishing village where the harbour, beach and coastal path are all within walking distance. Beul-An-Latha sits in a terrace of period cottages with views across to the water from most rooms. The village itself has a café by the harbour, a shop within 100 yards, and boat trips that explore the coastline towards Fast Castle and St Abbs Head Nature Reserve. Eyemouth, five miles south, has restaurants and a golf course; Berwick-upon-Tweed is close enough for a train journey to Edinburgh or Newcastle.
Inside, the cottage has three bedrooms (one double, two singles) and a bathroom with bath and shower. The ground floor holds a living room with woodburner, record player and television, plus a kitchen/dining room with electric cooker and washing machine. Electricity, bed linen, towels and logs for the fire are all included. There is private parking for two cars, a courtyard with garden furniture and a barbecue, and one well-behaved pet is welcome. The cottage does not permit smoking.
The Berwickshire Coastal Path runs through the village, offering 48 kilometres of walking from Cockburnspath to Berwick. The beach is a short walk away, and the wider region has hill walking, cycling, local galleries and historic houses to explore.
