The Barn is a single-storey conversion on a working smallholding between Castle Cary and Yeovil. Built from an existing agricultural building, it sits on the edge of South Barrow in countryside that invites exploration on foot. The whole property is yours alone, with ground-floor access throughout and enough space for four people without feeling cramped.
Inside, an open-plan living area brings the kitchen, dining and sitting space together, with a 42-inch TV and wi-fi for when the weather turns. Two bedrooms—one double, one with twin singles—connect to two bathrooms, each with a shower and one with a bath as well. The kitchen has what you need to cook properly: oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and full-sized fridge. Bed linen and towels are provided, and heating is included October to April.
The real draw is the private hot tub in the enclosed garden. It's yours for the duration, at no extra charge, along with parking for two cars on site. Dogs are welcome here. Nearby attractions include the Haynes Motor Museum and Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, Montacute House, and further south the Jurassic Coast. The Woodland Escape activity centre is also within reach if you're looking for things to do beyond the quieter rhythms of rural Somerset.

We have just returned home from another amazing stay at Midknowles, The Barn. As always Lorraine and Kevin are the most amazing hosts and are so friendly, its like visiting family. The Barn itself is immaculate, clean, homely and has everything you could need. From the minute you pull up onto the drive you can feel yourself relaxing, the beautiful view, the birds singing, the hot tub and the welcome goodies. We would highly recommend Midknowles Barn, Cottage and the Snug. We are already looking at when we can return next year. Thanks Lorraine and Kevin for all your hard work, time, chats and day out suggestions. See you both next year x

We had a lovely time in The Barn. Perfect facilities. Enclosed field for the pooch to gallop around in, even a swing-seat out there so you can sit and enjoy the surrounding countryside while your dog mooches about. A very pleasant stay. Would go again happily.

What a beautiful place! Ideal for a quiet get away. The Barn where we stayed was very clean and tidy with all the amenities you need. The back opens to a small garden with hot tub. Its very private. The garden then opens up onto fields, perfect for walking the dogs and letting the kids run around. If the sky is clear at night its perfect for star gazing as there is no light pollution. The couple who rent out these beautiful cottages are absolutely lovely, very helpful, approachable and friendly. We were advised of places to visit, which we did and were not disappointed. We will defiantly be returning for another visit Thank you for a wonderful time.
