Five en-suite rooms above a traditional Cornish pub on Fore Street in St Austell, with generous meals served downstairs.

About The Ship Inn

Just five rooms make up The Ship Inn, each with its own en-suite bathroom and the kind of straightforward comfort that suits a short stay in St Austell. Rooms come with drinks available on request, and family rooms are on offer for those travelling with children. Free WiFi runs throughout, and reception is staffed around the clock, so arrival times are never a worry.

Downstairs, the pub itself is the heart of the place, decked out with nautical touches that give it a warm, traditional feel. The kitchen has a good reputation for its scallops and fish pie, with portions generous enough to satisfy, and breakfast is included for guests staying the night. A bar keeps things sociable, and pets are welcome throughout.

Fore Street puts guests within reach of Cornwall's coastline and countryside, with walking and cycling routes nearby along with fishing and watersports for those wanting to get outdoors. Further pubs, restaurants and entertainment are all close by, making The Ship Inn a convenient base for exploring St Austell on foot.

Visited today under the new management. Blown away to say the least. Welcomed with friendly smiles and conversation by Alex and Noah. They have created the perfect environment to accommodate everyone. Little nooks to cosy away in or up at the bar for socialising and conversation. The food was outstandingly tasty and a portion size that will fill your belly for the rest of the day. I highly recommend the Piggy Blinder burger topped with in house made BBQ pulled pork. All very reasonable priced in comparison. A traditional pub with plenty of charm and character. The accommodation was just as charming, again traditional, cosy, clean and welcoming. Also the perfect hint of a few modern touches to provide a very comfortable stay indeed. We can't wait to visit again. Thank you Noah and Alex for such a faultless 1st time experience as one of your guests. We wish you every success with your venture and will be seeing you again very soon.

We dropped in without a booking and the staff were happy to accommodate us. My Mum and I both ordered fish pie which was absolutely delicious! We also enjoyed the Rattlers cider we drank with it. An acoustic singer provided great entertainment. The atmosphere was friendly and lively. The pub is apparently under new ownership and we were really impressed by the co-owner we met.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures on this occasion,.I was to famished when my food arrived. I went for the scallops large portion, well it was fantastic, the scallops numbered 10 in total with the roe attached still 👌, in a lovely sauce with mushrooms, a nice side salad and a warm baguette with a saucer of cornish butter, yum, the scallops were perfectlycooked and as fresh as u can get. The wife as usual couldn't are herind up, but the staff were very accommodating, and she ordered a fish sandwich, which wasn't on the menu, it was served on a baguette with salad, the wife struggled to finish it. The beer was also good, with an excellent local selection. Well done.

Probably the best campsite we have been too. Well organised. And loads of space. A couple of tiny things that were disappointing. We didnt find the staff that helpful. The ground was rock hard (not the campsites fault) and the fish and chips had an hour queue and not very nice.
