About The Crown Inn
Anyone after a straightforward overnight stop with good food on the doorstep should look at The Crown Inn on Ermin Street in Stratton, Swindon. This is a traditional pub hotel with 20 rooms, geared more towards travellers who want convenience and value than those seeking a polished boutique stay.
The restaurant and bar are the heart of the place, serving freshly cooked meals in generous portions with a good range of choices, including daily specials, all backed by staff who are consistently described as friendly and attentive. Breakfast is included, and there's a garden for those who want to sit outside. Free WiFi, luggage storage and free on-site parking round out the practical side of things. It's worth noting that some of the bedrooms show their age and could do with more upkeep, so this suits guests prioritising food and location over pristine finishes.
Set in central Swindon with transport links and local attractions nearby, it works well as a base for exploring the area or as a stopover for those passing through Wiltshire, particularly if a decent pub dinner matters more than a fancy room.

What guests say
We called in here hoping to get a table for 2 and although they were busy we did. Service was quick and friendly. Steak was perfectly cooked (medium rare) £20 for 2, good value. Wouldn't hesitate to go again.

We came down from Scotland to play a tournament, and stayed at The Crown, staff were so accommodating and lovely. Nothing was too much trouble, the rooms were comfy ( if not a little too hot, but it was a heat wave). We had food -which was very good. And there was a lot of us, food came out hot, and was delicious. Thanks to Dani and her team for putting up with a bunch of rowdy scottish women

We went for lunch and had the lamb pie with leak mash. It was stunning, cooked to perfection and I had pancakes with banners and maple syrup, as it was the day after and everything was lovely and all was delivered in a very timely manner. The staff are super friendly and accompanying. 5 stars 🌟

Went here about 3 years ago, had a lovely meal, then it went very down hill. We decided today that we would give it another try. All we can say is wow wow wow, how long has the crown been like this???. We feel like we have been missing out. Only selected the lite bite menu, wasn't expecting what we received. I had steak and onion baguette, hubby had sausage and onion in brown bloomer. Amazing portions, steak was the best I've ever tasted within years. Garlic cheesy breast was sooo flavoursome. If I could give u 10 stars I would. Thankyou
