About The Horn of Plenty

Sixteen rooms are all The Horn of Plenty has, and that scale shows in the way it's run: a country house hotel near Tavistock, Devon, built around its restaurant and gardens rather than around volume. Rooms are well-proportioned and kept to a high standard, each with an en-suite bathroom, and the house itself has the settled, elegant feel of a proper country retreat rather than a chain hotel.

The kitchen is the heart of the place, with a restaurant serving food that draws on the surrounding Devon countryside, a bar for a drink before or after dinner, and breakfast included for residents. There's a garden with outdoor seating where the views open out towards Dartmoor National Park, and facilities extend to free WiFi, drinks brought to your room, 24-hour reception, concierge help and luggage storage. It's also set up as a wedding venue, and pets are welcome, with free on-site parking for anyone arriving by car.

Beyond the grounds there's plenty to fill a stay: walking and cycling routes nearby, golf, fishing and horse riding all within reach, and a handful of local pubs and restaurants for those who want to venture out. Tavistock itself sits close by for a change of scene, with Dartmoor's open moorland making an easy day trip from the door.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Horn of Plenty. No „design rooms“, but beautiful country house style, bright and friendly. Wonderful gardens. Lovely service! The biggest highlight though was the dinner. Nice restaurant with great views. Great food, wonderfully presented!

My partner and I came here for dinner and the food was delicious - creative, with unique flavour combinations, made with real care and devotion. The service from Doug was outstanding - we felt truly welcomed and very well looked after from the moment we arrived. There was a genuine warmth in the way he hosted us. He paid attention to the small details, checking in at just the right moments and helping the whole evening unfold with ease. Thank you so much for such a lovely experience.

We had Sunday lunch at the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and led us to a table with a fantastic view over the valley. We ordered a starter – I had Salmon and my partner had Leek and Potato Soup – both of which were beautifully presented and tasted absolutely delicious. Following the excellent Roast Beef, which was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic, we were persuaded to try dessert. The quality and standards of the earlier courses had left us impressed, and we were not disappointed.
