Hillsweek

Hillsweek is an 18th-century stone cottage set in Gunnislake, a village straddling the Tamar Valley between Devon and Cornwall. The property sits a short walk from local shops, a pub and restaurants. It's a detached whole house with its own parking and a lawned garden enclosed by fencing, so you have complete privacy. One small dog stays free of charge.

The ground floor contains a living room with television and DVD player, plus two dining spaces—one with an electric woodburner. The kitchen is fitted with an electric cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave and fridge-freezer, so you can cook proper meals or do laundry. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a double bed (4ft 6in) and one with a single (3ft), served by a bathroom with bath and shower. Bed linen and towels are provided, along with heating and electricity. The cottage has several internal steps, so take care moving around.

From Gunnislake you can explore Calstock's riverside setting, visit Cotehele House or Morwellham Quay, reach the market town of Tavistock by car, or catch a train to Plymouth. It suits couples, small families or anyone wanting a base to explore both counties. No smoking inside.
