The Fishermen’s Cottages - Smuggler’s Cottage

Photo: The Fishermen's Cottages

Broadstairs sits on the Kent coast with Victorian charm and sandy beaches at its heart. Viking Bay is walkable from the town centre, while the clifftops offer long views and trails in both directions. Smuggler's Cottage occupies a central spot, putting you within reach of independent cafés, pubs and restaurants, the Dickens House Museum, Bleak House, and the Palace Cinema.

The cottage spreads across three floors. On the lower level, a kitchen with a gas hob and electric oven opens into a dining area—everything you need to cook properly. The ground floor living room has an electric fire and a focal point for gathering. Upstairs are two bedrooms: a double on the top floor, and a twin on the first floor. There is one shower room. The cottage has period character throughout, and an enclosed garden with patio and seating areas outside. One dog is welcome. No smoking inside.

Essentials like electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are included, along with a travel cot and highchair if needed. There is on-road parking. The layout gives everyone their own space after a day exploring the seafront or the nearby towns of Margate and Ramsgate.

Myself and my friend Sharon spent 2 nights, 3 days in Sandpiper Cottage, Broadstairs, last weekend . 16th August. It was a wonderful week. Great communication from the hosts from the start, easy booking, and easy to find and access. Lots of very useful information was given, including to park on the Esplanade and walk down, 5 minute walk. You can also park right by the cottages, if you have lots to unload. We didn't, so simply walked down from the Esplanade, very close. The cottage was immaculate, pretty, quirky and full of lovely little touches from the hosts. They seemed to have thought of everything. Kitchen was very well equipped, bathrooms and bedrooms spotless and very comfortable beds. It was an absolute delight to stay here and made our mini break even better. The stairs in this cottage are challenging, however we knew that in advance, as it's in the literature online. But we found that added to the character of the place. Sharon and I would highly recommend Sandpiper Cottage and these hosts. Excellent service and big shout out to Ryan for getting us in !. He was a great help. 100 % recommend and we will definitely back. Thank you 😊

My husband and I stayed at Fagin's Den in Broadstairs in April 2025. We had a wonderful time in Beverley and Phil's amazing fisherman's cottage which is full of delightful Dickensian details. There are prints on the walls of various characters from Dickens' novels and the rooms are full of quirky and fascinating objects from the Victorian period. So much thought has gone into making this a home which anyone will love, but if you're a Dickens fan, you will adore! It's a short stroll to the sea front and to the Charles Dickens Museum and there are lots of places to eat a 5 minute walk away. Beverley and Phil also went the extra mile and set up a treasure hunt for us - Dickens themed! - with clues to solve. This led us up and down and all around the cottage, searching through Dickens' novels, weighing a bag of meal in the kitchen, hunting for hidden hideaways. It was great fun! For a holiday home with a difference, you couldn't do better than the fabulous Fagin's Den in charming Broadstairs!

I stayed at Fagins den with my daughters, they had so much fun playing the scavenger hunt and dressing up. Games are provided aswell. It was quiet at night time, we went for a evening walk along the beach that is 3 minutes away. It was beautiful. The beds were comfy and it really felt like we were in fagins den. I would recommend 100% for a little short but very satisfying holiday in beautiful Broadstairs 😍
