What visitors say
Incredible contemporary art collection in a beautiful building. They are affiliated with the Tate and it’s free! A must if you like art and are on mainland Orkney! They also have very cool prints from local artists in their shop.

Shocked to find such a well curated contemporary museum in Stromness. Museum has a dual focus on: 1) nationally significant British 20th century art donated by a philanthropist, and 2) rotating exhibitions about the people of Orkney, their work, and their lives. For example when I visited, the Museum was showing Visual Arts work from Secondary School students in Orkney, and the work of Orcadians who recently graduated from University. Entry is absolutely free, but the experience, although small, was of such a high quality that anyone should be willing to leave a donation. If you're visiting Orkney, make a trip to Stromness and see the Centre.

A world class small museum of awesome contemporary art in an architectural masterpiece building. A total shock in this priceless, charmingly quaint town. Worth a trip from anywhere.

Magnificent experience! Loved the building design and the artistic works to marvel at. William Gillies main artist on feature when I visited with other artists also displayed. What a talent, very skilled. If you're in Stromness visit this Centre. Educational 😊🤓
