Touring pitches on the racecourse, a five-minute walk from Thirsk

About Thirsk Racecourse Club Campsite

Tucked onto the infield of Thirsk Racecourse with the grandstand visible from your pitch, this Caravan and Motorhome Club site puts you closer to the thunder of hooves on race days than any hotel room could manage. Outside of fixtures it's a quiet, functional touring base, level and open, with electric hook-up throughout, a motorhome service point, and a shower block that reviewers say can feel a little tired in places. Still, the location wins out: Thirsk's Market Place, independent shops and the World of James Herriot museum are all five minutes on foot, making this one of the most walkable sites in North Yorkshire.

Pitches suit caravans, motorhomes and a smaller number of tents, with on-site dog walks and barbecues permitted. It's an ideal staging post for Sutton Bank, the Dales and the North York Moors, and open spring to early winter each year.

July 2026: Set at the edge of the race course and close to two supermarkets (200metres) and the lovely town of Thirsk with numerous independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants plus the must see James Herriot museum. The facilities here are basic compared to most other C&MC sites but are clean and well tended. The wardens are exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The grassed sites is mostly undulating but with an appropriate levelling wedge a reasonable pitch can be obtained. Each pitch has its own EHU point. The site seems to have numerous people who return year after year some we spoke to for thirty years.

Gorgeous location adjacent to the racecourse, so if you like horse racing you can watch it from campsite have your own bbq and drinks!! The site itself is lush green grass and immaculate and the full English at the on-site cafe is fantastic and only £6.50. Steve who runs the site and his wife are lovely and very approachable. I’ll be back. Martin 👌

Great location for Thirsk town. 2 min walk to lidl or tesco. Thats where the good bits stop. Grass pitches ok but only one water tap and disposal point which is very basic and you have to go to the very tired toilets to wash your hands. Not a particularly friendly welcome but adequate, though no site map offered. Bit of a stream running over grass to the road from water tap. Worst bit is 10amp electric only, we were ok and careful but next door tripped bollard 3 times in 24hrs. Stayed on far better for much less money. Worth £20 per night maybe. Certainly poor value for money at £32.40 per night for a couple in a motorhome.

We are on the racecourse site Right beside the racing area. Through camper and caravan club. Paid £12 per night Has social club yards away from site. Town is 15min walk. Tescos and Lidl 5 min walk. Site (field) is well maintained And fairly even. Market on a Saturday in town centre. Wetherspoons and other public houses within minutes of each other. Takeaways 'pizza'fishshop'chinese that we know of. For those in camping and caravan club definitely worth a visit.
