The location means the seafront is genuinely immediate—pier, arcade, crazy golf and Vue cinema are all within walking distance, as are the restaurants and bars that line the promenade. The nearby Charterhouse is worth a visit if you want something quieter. Further afield, Torquay's marina and Brixham's harbour are reachable for a day out, and the steam railway runs locally too. It's a straightforward base for a couple seeking beach access without fuss.
