Hodroyd Hall

Photo: Hodroyd Hall

The rolling countryside around Felkirk holds plenty to explore on foot or by car. St Peter's Church stands nearby, and the broader Wakefield district offers market towns, countryside walks and access to the M1 corridor. Hodroyd Hall itself is a substantial period property with genuine historical roots—parts of it date back centuries, and the house has sheltered notable figures during its past lives as a monastic building and then a family seat.

The hall spreads across two floors with three bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom; a fourth bathroom serves the main landing. Ground-floor rooms include a kitchen with a working range and full appliances, a dining room, living spaces, a conservatory, a study and a separate toilet. Bed linen, towels, heating, electricity and Wi-Fi are included. The property has parking for up to 12 cars on site, and one well-behaved pet can stay free. The enclosed garden has patio areas and seating, and a highchair is available if needed.

This works for family gatherings, groups of friends, or milestone celebrations that call for a distinctive setting. The hosts are known for their attention to detail and hospitality. Note that the grounds contain steps, and smoking is not permitted inside.

Fabulous venue. Visited for the first time on 2/5/26 and had 5 star treatment from arrival to leaving. Booked for a Spring Luncheon, starting with a glass of prosecco and canapes in the Italian garden, followed by a three course lunch and tour of the hall. Fascinating place built around 1144. Highly recommend a visit. Check out their website for upcoming events. It's a hidden gem.

I booked this for a special birthday celebration in January 2026. The House is a wonderful place for any celebration to be held.Leanne and Alicia looked after all my guests so well. When Booking the celebration I went to see Chris Hale in person as I am coeliac and also had other guests with dietary requirements. I was reassured that this was not a problem. When the food came out the gluten free options were some sandwiches and a couple of cakes. I was very disappointed with this. The place is lovely for a celebration but I would think very carefully if you have any DIETARY REQUIREMENTS.

We stayed at Holroyd Hall from 29 December to 5 January. 8 Adults and 4 Children aged 11 -14. It’s a great place to celebrate special occasions with a large group of family members or friends and we had a truly enjoyable and memorable time. The house is very large with plenty of rooms to spread out or to get together for celebrating and meals. The kitchen is well equipped with nearly everything we needed to prepare and cook meals or buffets. Large double oven Rangemaster cooker, microwave and large slow cooker, because we were self-catering, we took an air fryer. The bedrooms are large, and the beds were very comfortable. Before going we were a little concerned that the house might have been cold due to its size especially during our winter stay. However, it was lovely and warm, we even had to turn some of the radiators in bedrooms down. The house is of course very old and full of charm and character, so this does show in some of the décor but in general it was clean and tidy and surprisingly cosy. There is Wi-Fi but due to the size of the house it wasn’t the best and the signal was slow and would drop of especially when a lot of people were trying to use it. Nice location for country walks, short dive to supermarkets and local shops,15 min stroll to the nearest pub.
