About Ridgeway View Campsite
Disconnect from the everyday at this spacious, back-to-basics site in the Oxfordshire countryside, under 30 minutes from both Oxford and Reading. Generous pitches spread across wheatfields with Chiltern Hills views, backing directly onto the ancient Ridgeway National Trail – known as Britain's oldest road, this 87-mile route has been walked for 5,000 years. The wildlife-rich Thames Path lies less than a mile away, and several excellent pubs in Crowmarsh Gifford and Hailey are within easy walking distance. Historic Wallingford, five minutes by car, offers shops, cafés and Agatha Christie's blue plaque.
Facilities are deliberately simple: portable loos, cold-water showers and washing-up sinks keep things rustic. Campfires and barbecues are permitted if raised off the ground, with firewood available to buy and cooking slabs for hire. Dogs are welcome year-round, and there's ample space for walks. For something different, book a session at the site's own axe-throwing range (15 minutes' drive). A 10.30pm noise curfew ensures everyone enjoys the rural peace, though some campers note facilities can feel basic even by back-to-nature standards.

What visitors say
Professional practice at a peaceful, back to basics campsite. 120% better than most caravan and motorhome sites we have stayed at. Quiet, clean and with very capable staff. They are 'on it', efficient, effective and brilliantly communicative. Utilizing modern communication systems to ensure a comfortable stay. Easy booking and book-in. What a joy! No fairy lights or flat screen TVs, radios or music intruding from caravans and motor homes. Toilets, regularly cleaned, simple showers if you so choose. Basic because they are supposed to be basic being in a field. Camping in a large, beautifully managed field, high up with stunning views, close to The Ridgeway and Wallingford (2.5 miles away). When we stayed, there were around a hundred, yes I did say a 'hundred', other tent and van campers that we did not even notice in terms of noise, space and comfort. Extraordinarily organised and respectul. People just enjoying nature under the sky. Thankyou, we will be back.

Loved it. No frills, clean loos, cold showers and views hard to beat. Some great walks and loads of space. Will most definitely be going back.

Peaceful Stay by the Ridgeway – A Hidden Gem I had a really enjoyable stay at this campsite tucked away in South Oxfordshire, right by the Ridgeway. It's a great spot if you're looking for something simple and peaceful. The facilities are basic, but everything you need is there – and the real charm is in the location and the atmosphere. Although I didn’t have a fire this time, it’s great to know that they’re allowed – definitely something I’d take advantage of on a future visit. The remote check-in was a nice touch too, making arrival easy and hassle-free. If you’re after a no-frills, back-to-nature kind of stay with beautiful surroundings. I’d definitely recommend it!
