The Lake District National Park puts fell walking and water sports within arm's reach of this corner of Westmorland and Furness. Allt Maen occupies the first floor of an 18th-century converted barn, with its name taken from the Celtic for Old Man of Coniston—the mountain visible from the windows. Coniston Water lies two miles away; Windermere eight. For something different, Grizedale Forest's tracks suit mountain bikers, and stately homes dot the surrounding countryside. The Red Lion Inn is a short walk, and shops are three miles off.
The single bedroom holds a double bed, and the bathroom has a bath with shower over it. Downstairs, the living room contains a woodburner (logs available to purchase), Freeview TV and DVD player, while the kitchen/dining room is equipped for cooking and eating together. Night storage heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wi-fi come as standard. A cot and high chair are available. You have private parking for two cars and share a courtyard garden with seating. One dog is welcome to stay. The property is on the first floor, accessed by steep spiral stairs.
