High Windy Cottage works well for families wanting space to spread out, or small groups of friends looking for a proper base rather than cramped quarters. The three bedrooms sleep five across a double and four singles, with two bathrooms to avoid the morning queue. Downstairs you have a living room with a wood burner, a kitchen and dining area with the essentials for cooking, and a conservatory looking out over the countryside. Everything needed to settle in—electricity, heating, bed linen and towels—is included, and there is parking for two cars on site.

The cottage sits on the edge of Alston, one of England's highest market towns, in the borderlands between Cumbria and Teesdale. The town itself has Georgian architecture and cobbled streets to wander, and the South Tynedale Railway runs heritage steam trains through the valley nearby. There is a pub within a mile, handy for an evening out without the drive home. The enclosed garden gives children or dogs room to run around safely. No smoking is permitted inside.
