About Cumberland Inn
A solid, traditional stone inn standing at Townfoot in Alston, the Cumberland Inn has the look and feel of a proper Cumbrian pub with rooms attached, rather than a purpose-built hotel. Its bar and restaurant are clearly the heart of the place, and bedrooms come with en-suite bathrooms and family rooms are available for those travelling with children.
The kitchen turns out hearty pub classics such as steak and ale pie, backed by a solid range of local beers and real ales, and the staff are consistently friendly and attentive. Prices for food and drink are reasonable, which adds to the appeal for anyone stopping for a meal as well as a bed. Breakfast is included, packed lunches can be arranged for the day ahead, and there's a garden and outdoor seating for warmer weather, plus a bar, meeting rooms, and free WiFi throughout.
Set with mountain views over the North Pennines, the inn suits walkers and cyclists exploring the surrounding hills, with fishing spots nearby and further pubs and restaurants within easy reach in Alston. Free on-site parking is available, pets are welcome, and 24-hour reception means arrival times are flexible.

What guests say
My stay was brilliant. The room was warm and clean, with a boiling hot bath which was very much appreciated after a long day of hiking. The service was great, nothing was too much to ask and it made my stay thoroughly enjoyable. The food was hearty and I was sent on my way stuffed full of cooked breakfast. The best part, was that my furry friend was welcomed with open arms!

Whilst walking the Pennine Way, I dropped by in the afternoon in need of a pot of tea. The woman who served me was exceptionally helpful and friendly - fetched me a large pot of tea with extra hot water, brought it to my table. Normally, I wouldn't write a review for a pot of tea, but the helpfulness was outstanding to the point where I want to make these comments. Also, the pot of tea as very cheap!
