Rock Cottage

Westmorland and Furness

View on Google Maps

The Lyth Valley, a pocket of rural Westmorland and Furness between Bowness and Kendal, centres around the small village of Crosthwaite. Rock Cottage sits on the green here, a mid-terraced stone building with the exposed beams and wood-burning stove typical of Lake District properties. The valley is damson country—in April the orchards flood with white blossom, and locals celebrate the harvest each year with Damson Day, selling homemade gins and preserves. Bowness is five miles north; Kendal, with its market, shops and restaurants, five miles east.

The cottage spreads across three floors. Ground floor holds a sitting room with woodburner, an open-plan kitchen and dining area, and one bedroom with a double bed. Upstairs is a second bedroom with two single beds and a separate toilet. A utility room with washer-dryer sits on the lower ground floor alongside a shower room. There is a patio to the rear with seating and a barbecue. One car parks on site. Electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included; heating comes from night storage and the stove. An award-winning pub lies within ten minutes' walk. Smoking is not permitted.
